What was the situation? The location of the city is good. People may be skilled for business. However, they are not prosperous. A couple may have fully functioning reproductive organs, but they cannot conceive. The land is not fruitful. The water supply is bad. In short, there is no life flowing to the city. In our nation, spiritually speaking, we know how it feels like to live in good cities with bad water supplies and unfruitfulness.

What does it take to cleanse the water and invite new life into a land? It takes salt. The prophet asked for someone to fill a new bowl with salt. Think about it. During that time, salt was a precious commodity. They used it to preserve food, among other things. If people did not have salt, it would be hard for them to survive and to sustain their food supply.

Would they simply want to just cast a bowl of salt into the water, and waste it? People who did not believe would not obey to cast the salt offering. It’s like throwing your fridge into the ocean. You have nothing to preserve your food. Your fridge is not cheap. If salt is a precious commodity, then it’s like throwing money into the water. However, it’s exactly what God is saying. Cast your money as an offering so that your finances will be preserved, purified, and your financial life would be revived.

The prophet needed to cast salt into the water to purify it in order for life to be revived and to make the land fruitful again. The nation may be experiencing unfruitfulness and an absence of spiritual vitality because of the lack of the salt offering. People are not casting their salt offering, and so they are suffering from death and unfruitfulness. Do you want your finances to have new life? Do you want to purify your life? Cast your salt offering.
