MONEY IS NOT THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL
The world says: “You have needs – satisfy them. You have as much right as the rich and the mighty. Don’t hesitate to satisfy your needs; expand your needs and demand more.” This is the worldly doctrine of today. And they believe that this is freedom. The result for the rich is isolation and suicide. For the poor, envy and murder.
− Fyodor Dostoyevsky
There is an excellent line between loving life and being greedy for it.
− Maya Angelou
11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11
What we should know about money and prosperity
Money is not the root of all evil; instead, it is the desire for it. It is essentially a mental construct with no intrinsic value other than what we give it. Money has neither positive nor negative connotations. Is it good or terrible? Money is merely a means of transaction. The money we have is what we use as a tool to purchase stuff. It is only a minor aspect of the physical act of living.
Metal coins were established in Turkey around 600 B.C., and paper money followed in the 1300s, beginning in China. However, before this standardized system, humans employed a variety of materials such as stones, beads, feathers, animal skins, shells, and others. It is possible to use money in this manner. It only becomes complicated now that there is a scarcity of paper and coins to purchase whatever goods or services people require or desire.
Greed
People are prone to become greedy and desire more and more things in life. If a person’s heart is not well guarded, it will determine his behaviors and thoughts. This greed drives us to grab a more significant piece of the pie. Greed is why we always think just about ourselves and don’t care what other people think. It makes relationships and friendships challenging, sometimes ruining them. Indeed, war and corruption are merely manifestations of greed taken to a logical conclusion.
Greed has no bounds. A person is not satisfied when their current desires are fulfilled. He is always in need, never satisfied with what he has accomplished. He can’t stop himself from wanting more and more. If you do not control it or become aware of its schemes, it will always get stronger with each passing day. Greed is dangerous, and this applies to individuals and all of us. Without the correct mentality to govern it, our desire has the potential to destroy everything — the entire human race and everything that has breath.
However, there is some good news. Yes, wealth cannot satiate greed, but money may subdue it. You can control the things you desire without being deprived of a peaceful, contented, and happy life. This is not done by playing as mediocre, lowering your goals or killing your dreams. This takes a personal understanding of what you really need and those that you don’t need.
