Some years ago, a woman was interviewing me from Dallas, Texas for 200 different printed news media publications. The interview went for over an hour. She said, “There are a people that do not believe as you do, they do not believe that a preacher should be talking about money or prosperity. What do you have to say about that?” I said, “Well, any religion that we were able to embrace, that our forefathers had in slavery, is a religion that we must reject.” She asked, “Why?” “Because if it was conducive for slavery, then that means it helps to keep slavery going today.” “If it kept you enslaved, then it helped promote the whole ideology of slavery. If it helps promote slavery, then it made you docile, weak, thus limiting one’s ability to become self-empowered. If you buy into that “old time religion,” you are going to be homeless, as many are today. Therefore, we must rethink the whole position of the gospel, especially as its been presented to us.” So, I said to her, “Jews do not have a money-rejection complex. However, we always feel obligated to question who is raising issues about money. The person who does not desire to live more abundantly is abnormal or is lying.

If I were a prophet that prophesied only, and never had any money coming into our ministry, then it would not be an issue at all. Once people began to give money as a direct way of showing their value for the Word of the Lord, then all of a sudden money now becomes a problem. It became an issue to reckon with. Why is that? The reason is that when people become givers of the thing that once mastered them, through their giving then in turn becomes masters over money.

When that happens people become economically empowered. They become free. And the oppressor becomes most upset when the oppressed becomes free.  That scares them, knowing that a thinking giving person cannot be manipulated by an autocratic system. For that reason, it is important that we preach that it is the will of God for you to be rich. The man who does not desire to live more abundantly is abnormal.

I really want you to take this one personally. You are abnormal. The person who does not desire to have money enough to buy all he wants is abnormal. It is grossly abnormal to live beneath your sincere desires, and settle for less in life. God put that craving in you to fulfill that desire. Understand the path you are designed to walk, and take in that path in life so that you may have the wealth you are ordained to have. This whole idea is directly connected with understanding your assignment in life.
