THE PROBLEM

According to an expert, the church’s problem is that evangelicals rely too much on rational, left-brained thinking that usually stems from a previous frame that they inherited from enlightenment. It is because mainly, we are beholden to the enlightenment frame. The church was known to be biased against the imagination. Thomas Nelson described it as if we are imprisoned in a “hall of mirrors, that is trapped in abstractions of their own making, [wherein one is] unable to comprehend or connect with actual embodied reality.”

To reach millennials today, the church needs to emphasize lived experience, not dogmas or doctrines. Millennials believe that reality is more complex than putting into words propositions and principles.

With this, what can be done? Transform the way we normally understand the Christian life, beginning with the full acceptance of the millennial’s insight on enlightenment rationalism to have an open conversation as we experience a more rounded faith.

Leadership in the Home 

God chose Abraham because he knew he could count on him to train and discipline his children and his household in the way of the Lord. What tremendous weight God places on this aspect of a man’s character. The amazing truth is God saw Abraham’s capacity for fatherhood even before he had Isaac. God already saw the kind of father he would be even before He blessed him with a child.

Fathers, you must study the Word of the Lord. If you know the way of the Lord, you will not lead your family in the same foolish route as Lot did. You may be leading your family into Sodom — a world with its sinful pleasures and enticements. You who led them into Sodom may never be able to lead them out of sin again.  

Have you made wrong decisions in the past in leading your family because you did not know the Word of God, or you did not inquire of the Lord? What happened as a result?
