Our view of God ultimately impacts how we view ourselves, our situation, and other people. When we have a distorted view of God, then we’ll have a distorted view of ourselves, our situation, and others.

For example, if we view God as a powerful, yet strict and merciless ruler in heaven, watching over the world, waiting to punish someone who sins, then we’ll view ourselves as losers, our situation hopeless, and others ruthless.

Moses used only one designation for God—Elohim. Moses used this name with care and mentioned this only 35 times (five multiplied by seven—the number of perfection). As the creator of the Universe, Elohim is the appropriate word as it distinguishes Him as the omnipotent deity.
