Tithes and Offerings are Too Expensive

Tithes and offerings are too expensive is the second most common excuse people make for withholding the tithes and the offering. Some people feel they cannot afford it. What people are saying here is they cannot afford both the tithes, how much more the offering, with every other bill they have to cover. In their minds, the tithe and the offering is the last item on the budget, instead of the first.

It’s a sad reality that the more you withhold the tithe and the offering, the more you would experience lack. As we continue to rob God, we rob ourselves of the joy and benefit of giving. I have yet to meet a person who regretted tithing. No one says, “I wish I didn’t bring my tithe in; THAT was a mistake.” No, people know the joy of giving and they know the blessings that follow the person who sow tithes and offerings to the Lord.

In the text in Malachi, we find something rare coming from the lips of God. In fact, it’s the only instance we are allowed to do this to Him. God challenges the people to put Him to a test. Read the passage below, and take God up on the chance to test His word:

10 Bring the entire tenth to the storerooms in my temple. Then there will be plenty of food. Test me this way,” says the Lord. “Then you will see that I will throw open the windows of heaven. I will pour out so many blessings that you will not have enough room to store them. (Malachi 3:10)
