The west wind is not commonly mentioned in the Bible. However, it is mentioned in Exo. 10:19, “The Lord changed the wind to a very strong west wind. It picked up the locusts. It blew them into the Red Sea. Not even one locust was left anywhere in Egypt” (emphasis added). The rule of thumb for biblical interpretation is that something must be consistently interpreted. For example, the presence of a snake in the bible always represents something bad.

The locust in the bible always represents demonic powers, which is how it is used in the book of Revelations, as it was in the book of Joel. In the passage above, the strong west winds picked up the locusts. Thus, the west wind brings deliverance. The west wind deals with Satan and his cohorts, while the east wind deals with the works of Satan.

The west wind is now the spirit of deliverance; the spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord. Do you wonder how the fear of the Lord and knowledge are intimately connected? It’s like this—you either have the fear of God or the fear of the devil or man. You cannot have either. When the fear of God fills your life, then you have no other fear in your life but God. The term “fear of the Lord” is not the other word mora, which means “terror.” It is the other Hebrew word yur’ah, which means “reverential fear.” God does not intend to terrify you, unless you are doing evil. Instead, he fear of the Lord is a wonderful experience.

The Apostle Paul would connect the spirit of a sound mind with freedom from fear. Remember, he told us God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, of power and of a sound mind. In other words, Satan can only harm you when you don’t have knowledge. Ignorance to God’s Word is the devil’s advantage.

Anytime Satan wants to work anything out, he uses deception. He twists the truth. However, the truth is Satan does not have any power since Jesus took it off at the cross. The only way Satan attacks is through deception; if he convinces you that he still has power. When this happens, then you surrender your rights to him.
