WHEN THE PROMISES OF GOD ARE PERSONAL
Some of us have received promises from God in a way that is truly personal and applicable to only our circumstances. It may be a job, healing, family salvation, or a baby. Most of us, if not all of us, have received a word like this once in our lives. It varies, and how we receive it also varies. Some receive it through a prophetic word, while some claim it through preaching, a book, or from the Bible. Some even actually hear an audible voice.
Whatever way it may be does not matter. What matters is that when we claim that something is the promise of God, we must be certain that it really came from God. A good rule of thumb is that anything that goes against what is written in the Bible is not from God. More than peace that surpasses all understanding, there must also be affirmations and confirmations of His Written Word. It’s difficult sometimes when what we see goes against what we heard. But, when we’re sure it’s God, we’ve got to hold on to what we heard.
God can be trusted.
And the good thing about God is that He could be trusted with the promises that He speaks out. Time has proven Him to be true and trustworthy. If you are nonchalant about your words, then you shouldn’t be surprised when there really isn’t lasting impact in what you say. But when you speak with intention, what you say takes on form and purpose. The promises God speaks over us have taken on form and purpose the very moment they are released, and we know without a shadow of doubt that He is not like us who have made promises and broken them “due to unforeseen circumstances.”
God sees everything, He knows everything, and He knows what He was saying when He promised us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. We can hold on to whatever He says wide-eyed and expectant because He is a God who will never leave us dejected nor disappointed. Whether we see everything come to pass in our lifetime or not is not what it’s all about. It may take 20 years, 100 years or 2,000 years to arrive. But His promise will surely come to pass.
