BE THE SALT OF THE EARTH

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:13-16)

How can we be the salt of the earth? A lot of Christians overlook the meaning of being “salt” and focus on being the “light” (Mt. 5:13-16) or the guiding force in their communities. We understand how we can let our light shine and live lives that glorify God. It is clear to us that we need to make sure people see the light of God in our lives. We walk in the light, and so we become the light in a dark and fallen world.

The tithes and offerings also purifies the rest of our income.

How can we preserve our lives for the Lord? Tithes and offerings area dominant reflection of our loyalty to the Lord. We endure in this materialistic world by making sure we commit to giving our tithes and offerings. It’s a reminder that we cannot be corrupted by the temptation to be greedy or to accumulate earthly wealth.

The tithes and offerings also purifies the rest of our income. As we dedicate our târumah, we know that the Lord accepts our offering as a pleasing sacrifice and blesses the rest of our increase. When we are committed and faithful to giving our offering, our eyes are fixed on the glory of the Lord. The enemy hates it when we give our offering, because he knows we are going against our selfish nature. Thus, generosity is truly an act that purifies our heart.

When Elisha cast salt into the water, the water supply was healed. A lot of people feel financial brokenness. They’ve lost hope for breakthroughs. They’ve accepted their financial failures and believe poverty is their permanent condition. However, the Lord is saying, the city is good. It is just the water supply that is bad. It only takes salt to purify and to heal the water system and to make life flow to the land to fruitful. If you are in a desperate situation, give an offering of value out of your faithfulness and loyalty to the Lord, and make sure it is from a pure and cheerful heart.

Salt represents permanence and incorruption. As you give your offering, you are taking a stand against the sinfulness of this world.97 You are also declaring the faithfulness of the Lord and how you everlastingly belong to Him.
