BREAKING THE SHACKLES FROM MINIMUM WAGE

Breaking the shackles from minimum wage can be done by taking action. Most minimum-wage earners are young; they work in food service and have never attended college. One of the reasons they end up working for minimum pay is a lack of a college education. Even outside the food business, millions of college-educated people work for minimum wage. Many of these folks desire to get out of their position but are unsure how. A minimal wage appears to be a prison. You’re not sure if you’ll ever be able to break free from it. However, there are opportunities.

Here are several approaches to breaking free from minimum wage jobs (Roth, 2007): 

Work two jobs 

If you have debts to pay or living expenses are always keeping you down, take a second job. Taking a second job may help you escape from your money problems on a short-term basis. It will help you find ways or solutions to focus on long-term plans. 

Seek a promotion 

Find a way to advance in the current job where you work today. Look for a career in different departments where the pay is much better. Be the kind of employee that managers cannot live without. Watch for advancement opportunities in your current employer. 

Change companies 

As a worker, observe your current employer. If there is no chance that you can get a higher income, then it’s about time that you apply to other companies. Not all employers have the same pay structure. Explore the competition, and see the offers of other companies. 

Change professions 

If you are still new in the corporate world, observe your current field. Once you enter the corporate world, you get to see the future of your current job. If you want to change your career path, you can look for companies that can offer training to acquire the skills you need to excel in the new career path you’ve chosen. Above it, consider if it is something that you love to do. There will always be a big difference when you are working because of what you want to do and if it is because of money. 

Steer clear of corporate giants 

You can work for small companies. Sometimes, they offer a good compensation package even if they are not widely known. Corporate giants offer low compensation packages because they operate nationwide. They have lots of workers that they need to pay. Be wise in choosing your benefits and salary rather than the company’s name. 

Educate yourself 

A college education is the best that you can have for you to break free from minimum wage jobs. As an employee, you must always have the edge in your chosen field and always choose to do your best for your superiors to get you noticed. Excellent performance is the best way to be promoted in your current position.
