RESURRECTION AND ASCENSION
Numbers 18, tells us that all the things the Israelites offered were referred to as wave offerings and heave offerings. These were not two kinds of offering, but one offering with two aspects: 1) the waving aspect, and 2) the heaving aspect. The word “wave” implies a back and forth movement, while the word “heave” meant to lift up. The wave offering signifies the resurrection of Christ, while the heave offering now tells us how Christ ascended. Christ offered himself as the holy sacrifice in his death. He also resurrected and he ascended. Thus, resurrection and ascension were always closely related. The resurrected Christ is the ascended Christ. The wave and the heave offerings that the people of Israel did in the past were prophetic acts, while we offer our wave and heave offerings today as a commemoration of what Jesus did.
The truth is everything we enjoy of Christ is a product of his resurrection and ascension. Whenever we have something of Christ to offer to the church, may it be our finances, our talents or time, this is always because Jesus Christ resurrected and ascended. Without the resurrection and ascension, it means Jesus was a liar and we have not been redeemed from our sins.
As believers, we can testify that Christ is our comfort and wisdom. He is our comfort and wisdom because he resurrected from the dead and did not remain dead. He also ascended into heaven to fulfill his promise of being our priest and mediator for the Father.
