The canvas must be empty. The page must be blank. The future that you are living into must be emptied out. What do you take out of your future? The past. Take out the past out of your future in order to create a new one.  How do you empty out the future you are living into? First, you must see what binds and constrains us are not facts. Instead, they are language; descriptive language. The second dimension is to articulate the default future and ask yourself if you really intend this future as your future. Awareness is key. Third, you must intentionally create a blank space, by completing issues from the past.

As a leader, you must be the first one to see the idea that the future is different from that of the past. You must separate your past from the idea of the new future; otherwise the future your group will be living into will be closed, fixed, and determined.

To complete means to move an incident from the default future to the past. This is not just about getting closure or experiencing a healing process. If you complete an incident, you do not need to take it into the future you are living into. You can remember it and you can be informed by it, but it does not need to influence your actions. It does not need to shape how situations will occur to you. You can be free from it completely.

Usually, when people look at certain events, they think they already know how it will turn out. This came from their “always-already-listening” tendencies.  When you are seeing things through this lens, you are seeing the incompletions that you have in your lives. You are taking baggage from the past into your future. The dictionary describes the term “incomplete” to be lacking in parts or “not whole.” When you say something is incomplete, something is not concluded. When an issue is not concluded, it affects your performance or that of your group. The “incompletion” lives in the unsaid and communicated.
