THE POWER OF IMAGINATION

THE POWER OF IMAGINATION
French philosopher, Rene Descartes famously said in his Discourse on Method, “I think,
therefore, I am.” Proverbs 23:7 states, “For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Everything you can and do create is already in your imagination. Your imagination is the origin of all things you will ever do or see happening in your life. It is where the possibilities of what you will do tomorrow, next week, and in ten years are born. There is no reality without imagination. You are the creator of every real-life situation you encounter. When you picture it, it will materialize.
When you don’t, it won’t happen to you or for you.
American essayist and poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson expressed it this way, “The ancestor
of every action is a thought.” Everything has an origin. Your thoughts are always manifesting in your present life, for good or for bad. Your ancestors in some way exist in your current life as a facial expression, in your hair color, or even in your demeanor. The origin of you goes back to long before you, just as the origin of an action begins long before the action takes place. The ancestor of every action is a thought. In other words, the root of your action is your thought. You have to have the right thoughts. You cannot choose the human ancestors who came before you, but you can choose the ancestors of the actions in your life by having the right thoughts.
“All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made
(John 1:3).”
That is a powerful sentiment. There is only one thing in the world, and that is imagination. Everything you can and will create is in your imagination. In your imagination, you can go out on a limb and think of all of the possibilities available to you, and without limitation. You can imagine having sixteen Rolls Royce’s, just like Reverend Ike. You can imagine being a Supreme Court judge. You can imagine having five children. There is no reality without imagination. Imagination is the gateway to reality. Imagination is where we dream of building things and creating things. From that creativity, our reality follows.
Through imagination, we have the power to create anything we desire. That’s why we can confidently say that imagination is the gateway to reality. The imagination transforms the world in which we live; that means we have the power to transform our own world to make it what we want it to be. It is only when we live by imagination that we can be said to truly live, at all.
Do not underestimate the power of imagination. It’s not just for child’s play. It is a sad fact to see grownups stop their children from using their imagination, by saying “Grow up!” It is through the imagination that God gave us the power to create. Everything is created twice, once in the mind, and then in reality. In your heart of hearts, what is it that you have always imagined as a child? What is it that you are fearful to imagine and to pursue in your imagination because you are scared that reality might slap you in the face? It’s not. Reality won’t do that, unless you tell it too (by imagining it). Imagine yourself a success. Imagine yourself where you’ve always wanted to be. To your future self, I’d like to say, “You’re welcome.”
