The Privilege of Offering Sacrifices

Honored to Make Sacrifices

Making a sacrifice is a position of honor. It is a privilege bestowed upon those who have been chosen. In the Old Testament, the high priest made sacrifices on the people’s behalf. However, even the high priest, being human, had to offer sacrifices for his own sins. This privilege was given by God Himself, as exemplified in the case of Aaron (Hebrews 5:3-4).

Entering God’s Most Holy Place

Only the high priest had the extraordinary privilege of entering God’s Most Holy Place. This was a sacred honor, as entering this holy place without being appointed by God could lead to death. In His divine plan, God chose Aaron’s family to be priests and appointed Jesus as our High Priest. As believers, we too, have been chosen by God to fulfill priestly duties.

The Nature of God’s Call

The essence of being called to make sacrifices is that God Himself has chosen us. A divine calling signifies a purposeful selection by God, making the calling itself an honorable position. For example, when the president appoints a cabinet member, they receive both special privileges and specific responsibilities.

Special Privilege and Responsibility

When God calls us to give tithes or offerings, it is a unique privilege accompanied by a specific responsibility. As God is holy, His priests must also be blessed. By accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we become priests of the Lord. Peter underscores this special privilege in his writing to the early Christian church:

“You are royal priests. You are a holy nation. You are God’s special treasure. You are all these things so that you can give him praise. God brought you out of darkness into his wonderful light”

(1 Peter 2:9).

Believers as Royal Priests

Believers possess the extraordinary privilege of entering into a royal priesthood and presenting sacrifices to God. We no longer rely on mediators for intercession. The torn veil in the Most Holy Place, a result of Jesus’ sacrifice, provides us with direct access to God. We are adopted as His children and appointed as members of the royal priesthood.

Purified and Set Apart

The precious blood of Christ purifies us, just as the blood of animals sprinkled the Old Testament priests. It consecrates and cleanses us for serving God. We must not take the priesthood lightly, as history reveals the severe consequences that befall those who assume the position without God’s calling.

Grasping the Big Picture

If you ever feel inconvenienced by giving your tithe or offering to the Lord, it is essential to understand the significance of your act. The ability to offer a sacrifice to God is a remarkable privilege. It signifies that you are no longer eternally condemned. Moreover, being called to bring back a tithe is a testament to God’s blessings in your life. The tithe comes from a harvest, reflecting God’s provision for you.

Embracing the Privilege of Sacrifice

As believers, we must grasp the immense privilege bestowed upon us to sacrifice for God. It is an honor to be chosen and appointed by Him. We are part of a royal priesthood, purified and set apart for divine service. This calling comes with both privileges and responsibilities.

Understanding the gravity of our role as priests helps us recognize the magnitude of Jesus’s sacrifice. It also reminds us of the abundant blessings God has bestowed upon us. Giving our tithes and offerings becomes an act of gratitude and recognition of His provision.

Let us never take the opportunity to bring our sacrifices to God for granted. Let’s embrace the privilege with reverence, knowing that we have been called into a sacred role and entrusted with the proclamation of His glory.
