Money as a Reward
The money status script views money as a reward. Jamal got the ultimate reward for the troubles he went through as a child—homelessness, begging, eating from dumpsites, and even threats by law enforcement. In money status, the introduction of money changes the conversation. A person gains respect, and they develop a sense of importance. They become a household name in the homes of those who aspire to become rich and successful.
This money script is mostly seen in lower net-worth people. The idea of moving to a higher net worth appeals a lot to those people. People may have grown up in lower socioeconomic status, looking at their probable backgrounds and money status. Also, their immediate environment may have given a higher social standing to people with more money. Because of this, the child grows with the ideology of “more money, more respect.”

Think about the rich people you know—would you still respect them if they become poor?
Take a moment to reflect on how you treat those who aren’t rich. If it’s different from the way you treat the rich, why is it so?
DANGEROUS MINDSETS
The drive for success may have many negative impacts on a person’s life, especially if they are willing to do just about anything to increase their self-worth. At times, people forget that financial success without healthy and fulfilling relationships is worthless. It gets lonely at the top. Some of the dangers to look out for include:
- Overspending and debt
- Financial dishonesty
- Excessive gambling
